I was born May 4th 1987 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Being raised as an only child, I developed an imagination and creative nature at a young age. I was amused by throwing rocks into the pond at Brick Landing Golf course and swinging a Mickey Mouse wooden club at the age of 2. My Dad, the one who handed me M&M’s out of a red plastic cup every time I came to the golf course, encouraged this rock throwing and sparked my interest with golf. He has been in the golf business the majority of his life and after marrying my mom, who was around golf as well with her dad, became truly involved with golf. Both parents have been amazing and very supportive with my life. I could not have made it this far without them.
From the time I was born, the game of golf has been a part of me. I grew up and spent the majority of my childhood in a small town in South Carolina called Pamplico. I grew up in a small rural area with family members surrounding me. For entertainment as a child, I found it enjoyable to play in the dirt and find sticks in the woods. Spending time playing outside with neighbors and cousins after school was the story of my childhood. I played almost every sport a girl could play, including baseball with the boys on a little league team. I love sports in general but knew golf was my passion at an early age.
I started competing in golf tournaments when I was 8 years old. I happened to win the first tournament I ever played: 5 holes, special tee markers, and colored golf balls. I will never forget that feeling of winning a golf tournament at age 8 and knowing golf was going to be a huge part of my life. I had a great junior and amateur career with over 30 wins. Having played so well growing up, I was blessed enough to get a full golf scholarship at The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. I played in every event on the team for 4 years and even carded an individual collegiate win. When I graduated with a degree in Communications, I decided to put that aside for a time and fulfill my dreams of playing professional golf.
I turned professional in September 2009 and quickly started living my dreams. I won a Suncoast series event right away and played in the Duramed Futures Qualifying School right after that. I finished tied for 45th and received exempt status for my first year on the tour.
I am currently playing on the LPGA Futures Tour and loving it! I feel very blessed and fortunate to be playing this game for a living. It is hard at times with travels and being homesick, but with hard work and determination I know that I can make it out there no matter what adversities come my way.
